But the authors of this software are now charging $10 for it.

If you don`t want to pay you cal also install a XAMPP package manually and than install joomla as you would on shared hosting account.

I really liked the way your website is written. Easy to understand and follow. BUT.
I cannot open this link

which is a bit frustrating because I wanted to get started and follow your tutorial for installing joomla on it’s own.
Any ideas?

One thing I discovered:

If you’re on a Unix/Linux system, make sure you chmod 755 the favicon.ico file. Otherwise, it won’t show up.
